Broadway's MJ will embark on a tour of North America in 2023, beginning with a run at Chicago's James M. Nederlander Theatre from July 15, 2023 with an opening night planned for July 26. The tour is currently scheduled to play 17 major cities across 60 weeks.

“We are thrilled by the Broadway response to MJ, and that we are already deep in preparations to bring this exhilarating show to Chicago and across the United States," says lead producer Lia Vollack. "Chicago is a premier theatre and music destination, and we are excited to be able to begin this journey in one of the Nederlander Organization’s most beautiful venues.”

Lynn Nottage Heather Gershonowitz

The tour will also play Charlotte, North Carolina's Blumenthal Performing Arts Center September 26-Oct 8, 2023, with additional tour stops and casting to be announced in the coming weeks.

Inspired by the life and art of the late Michael Jackson, MJ opened at Broadway's Neil Simon Theatre February 1 after beginning previews December 6, 2021. The musical features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage and a score made up of some of the most popular songs in recording history. Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon directs and choreographs.

The production features sets by Derek McLane, lighting by Natasha Katz, costumes by Paul Tazewell, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection design by Peter Nigrini, and hair and wig design by Charles LaPointe, music direction by Jason Michael Webb, musical supervision by David Holcenberg, and orchestrations by Holcenberg and Webb. Casting is by Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office.

MJ is produced on Broadway and tour by Lia Vollack, John Branca, and John McClain.
