The Thornton Wilder Society will award the 2022 Thornton Wilder Prize to Michel Hausmann and Miami New Drama, co-founded by Hausmann. The prize will be presented at New York City's American Academy of Arts and Letters November 14.

Miami New Drama staged a multilingual production of Thornton Wilder's Our Town, which featured dialogue in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and English, in 2017. The production will be at the center of an onstage discussion between Hausmann, playwright Sarah Ruhl (Becky Nurse of Salem), Wilder's nephew and literary executor Tappan Wilder, and journalist Jeremy McCarter (Hamilton: The Revolution, Young Radicals) at the November 14 event.

Ruhl has penned the introduction for Theatre Communications Group's new edition of Thornton Wilder's The Long Christmas Dinner and Other Plays in One Act. Her latest work Becky Nurse of Salem will begin previews for its New York premiere—starring Tony winner Deirdre O'Connell in the title role—at Lincoln Center Theater November 8.

2022 marks the 125th anniversary of the three-time Pulitzer-winning writer's birth, and Wilder remains the only writer to win a Pulitzer in both fiction and drama. The Thornton Wilder Society, which is dedicated to the playwright's literary legacy, publishes the bi-annual Thornton Wilder Journal and periodically awards prizes to artists that "reflect the values espoused by Wilder." Past recipients include Russell Banks, Robert MacNeill, Rocco Landesman, Paula Vogel, and Donald Margulies.
