Grammy-winning rocker Melissa Etheridge completes the limited Broadway run of her bio-show Melissa Etheridge: My Window. Preview performances began September 14 and the show opened at Circle in the Square September 28. At time of closing, the play-meets-concert will have played nine previews and 38 regular performances.
Through storytelling and song, the singer, known for hits such as “I'm the Only One,” “Come to My Window,” and "I Want to Come Over,” walks audiences through her life, from her childhood in Kansas through messy marriages and her battle with cancer to her spiritually peaceful present. She accompanies herself on guitar, piano, drums, and looping machine.
The show is written by Etheridge, with additional material by her wife, television writer and showrunner Linda Wallem-Etheridge (Nurse Jackie, That '70s Show). Amy Tinkham directs. The creative team includes scenic design by Bruce Rodgers, costume design by Andréa Lauer, lighting design by Abigail Rosen Holmes, projection design by Olivia Sebesky, and sound design by Shannon Slaton.
Etheridge release her self-titled debut album in 1988. She has two Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Performance for the songs "Ain't It Heavy" and "Come to My Window," and a Best Song Oscar for "I Need to Wake Up" from the documentary An Inconvenient Truth.
