Off-Broadway's MCC Theater has announced two titles for its 2024–25 season. Included are a world premiere play by Douglas Lyons (Chicken & Biscuits) starring three-time Tony nominee Kara Young (Purlie Victorious).
The new play, Table 17, will be directed by Zhailon Levingston (Chicken & Biscuits, Cats: The Jellicle Ball), and will also feature Biko Eisen-Martin (soft) and Michael Rishawn (Ain’t No Mo’). The work follows a pair of exes, Jada and Dallas, who reunite for dinner to hash out the good, the bad, and the ugly from their romantic past. Table 17 is presented in association with Jeffrey Richards & Mark Cortale. Performances will run August 14–September 22.
But that's not all. The season will also include a new play from Robert O'Hara (Slave Play) called Shit. Meet. Fan. O'Hara will write and direct the work, based on the Italian film Perfect Strangers by Paolo Genovese. It follows the chaos that occurs when a group of long-time friends gather to play on the night of the eclipse. Shit. Meet. Fan. will run October to November of this year.
In spring 2025, MCC Theater will celebrate its 25th annual Miscast gala and performance. Plus, it will also mark 25 years of MCC Youth Company Productions, with two festivals: Uncensored and Freshplay Festival.
There will be other productions in the spring that have not been announced.
Said MCC Artistic Directors Will Cantler and Bernie Telsey in a joint statement: "We love to give our audiences something to talk to us about, and that is exactly what we are doing this year. Our 2024–25 season promises big laughs, relatable stories about complex and flawed people, and new work from award-winning theatre artists. We'll see you in the lobby!"
MCC's 2023–24 season is currently underway, with its new musical The Lonely Few (starring Lauren Patten and Damon Daunno) running through June 2.
