Crystal Skillman and Bobby Cronin's musical Mary and Max is getting a "private industry salon" presentation in New York December 1, with Christopher Gattelli (Newsies) directing. Anna Ebbeson will be music director.
The work, adapted from a 2009 Austrlian film and featuring a book by Skillman and songs by Cronin, centers on an unlikely long-distance friendship between two outsiders. The musical played a developmental run at Austria’s Theatre Linz in 2019, which followed earlier developmental presentations in NYC and Atlanta.
The upcoming NYC presentation's cast will include Lauren Elder (Side Show), Adam B. Shapiro (Fiddler on the Roof), Nick Adams (Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Lena Marano (The Goodbye Girl), Anne Brummel (Wicked), Michael Williams (Wicked), Kennedy Kanagawa (Into the Woods), Caleb Hartsfield (Once), Yassi Noubahar, and Jazley Genovese. Elder and Adams have been developing the musical since at least 2017.
Drew & Dane Productions is producing.
