Harold Brighouse's classic English comedy Hobson's Choice is to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a new West End outing, beginning performances June 8 prior to an official opening June 14 for a run that is booking through September 10.

The production, which originated at Theatre Royal Bath, is transferring to Vaudeville Theatre, co-produced by Theatre Royal Bath Productions, Jonathan Church Productions (the director's new independent producing venture) and Duncan C. Weldon.

Martin Shaw — the Tony nominated star of An Ideal Husband who is best known for his TV roles in Judge John Deed and The Professionals — plays Henry Horatio Hobson, a self-made man, shopkeeper, skinflint and drinker, who is a tyrant to his daughters and a law unto himself. When Maggie, his eldest daughter, defies Hobson's wishes by marrying Will Mossop, his own boot-maker, a battle of wills begins in which he stands to lose his customers, his girls and his pride, but ultimately it is Hobson's choice.

Naomi Frederick, who plays Maggie Hobson, has on stage in The Heresy of Love at Shakespeare's Globe Made in Dagenham at the Adelphi Theatre, Emil and the Detectives at the National and The Winslow Boy at the Old Vic.

Bryan Dick, who plays Willy Mossop, has appeared in Seminar at Hampstead Theatre and The Alchemist at the National Theatre.

Also in the cast are Gabrielle Dempsey and Joanna McCallum, with further casting to be announced.

Design is by Simon Higlett, with lighting design by Tim Mitchell, sound design by Mike Walker; and music by Matthew Scott.
