The previously announced world premiere of David Hare's The Red Barn at London's National Theatre is to star Mark Strong and Hope Davis.
It will begin performances October 6 in the Lyttelton Theatre, prior to an official opening October 17, where it is being produced in association with Scott Rudin, under the direction of Robert Icke.
As reported by Baz Bamigboye in the U.K.'s Daily Mail, the play is about two couples who get lost in a blizzard in Connecticut after their car breaks down. Hare and producer Rudin had asked Davis to read the text so they could see how it played. She is quoted telling Bamigboye, “It reminded me of an Alfred Hitchcock film. And I wrote to David and said I couldn’t stop thinking about it.”
She now leads the London premiere opposite Strong, the Tony-nominated star of the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller's A View from the Bridge.
