Manhattan Theatre Club's annual spring gala is set for May 20 at the Cipriani 42nd Street. Festivities will begin with cocktails at 7:00 PM, followed by dinner and performances, with featured performers to be announced at a later date.
Proceeds from the annual event will fund MTC's productions, as well as its Artistic Development and Education programs.
The not-for-profit theatre's current productions are Amy Herzog's Mary Jane, now in Broadway previews; and John Patrick Shanley's Brooklyn Laundry, which will continue Off-Broadway performances through April 14. Earlier productions from this season include Jaja’s African Hair Braiding, Poor Yella Rednecks, and Prayer for the French Republic.
The gala co-chairs are Marie T. Gallagher and Thomas F. Secunda. The creative team includes music director Jason Michael Webb, lighting designer Joel Shier, sound designer Leon Rothenberg, and stage managers James FitzSimmons and Jereme Kyle Lewis.
The 2022-23 MTC season marked Lynne Meadow’s 50th Anniversary as Artistic Director of Manhattan Theatre Club. Meadow was joined in summer 2023 by Chris Jennings, MTC’s new Executive Director. MTC’s mission is to develop and present new work in a dynamic, supportive environment; to identify and collaborate with the most promising new as well as seasoned, accomplished artists; and to produce a diverse repertoire of innovative, entertaining, and thought-provoking plays and musicals by American and international playwrights.
