Tony winners Mandy Patinkin (Homeland, Wonder, Evita) and Janet McTeer (Kaos, Ozark, A Doll's House) as well as Danny Huston (Yosemite, Horizon: An American Saga) have been cast in the new limited original series The Artist.
The seven-episode series will premiere in March 2025 on The Network, a free, ad-supported streaming platform and studio that launched in May. Additional casting will be announced.
Created, executive-produced, written, and directed by filmmaker and founder of The Network, Aram Rappaport, the murder mystery is set in the twilight of the Gilded Age as Thomas Edison, Edgar Degas, and Evelyn Nesbit meet at the home of an eccentric and failing tycoon and his wife—an evening which ends in the tycoon's untimely demise.
Joining Rappaport as producer of this work of historical fiction is Hilary Shor
(Children of Men, The Paperboy).
“The way we make television has changed. I believe it is a fundamental truth that artists should hold the keys to their craft and creativity,” said Rappaport in a statement. “This series in collaboration with the cast and crew has proven there is a hunger to explore new frontiers in an episodic format, where actors have freedom to challenge themselves and take risks. This is something I believe we could only have been able to greenlight at The Network. I created a platform to push the boundaries of storytelling, and now we actually get to do it! How lucky are we?”
