New Haven’s Long Wharf Theatre has announced the lineup for its 2017–2018 season. Included in the slate is Bess Wohl’s Off-Broadway hit Small Mouth Sounds, Regina Taylor’s gospel musical Crowns, Ken Ludwig’s comedy Baskerville, and new plays by Matthew Barber, Julia Cho, Aaron Posner, and Chaim Potok.

As previously announced, the regional theatre will begin its season with Small Mouth Sounds, which will also mark the first stop on the show’s national tour. Set on a silent retreat, the play follows six city runaways attempting to find some balance in the quiet of the woods. With direction by Rachel Chavkin, performances are scheduled to run August 30–September 24.

In the fall, Long Wharf will present the world premiere of Fireflies, a new romance by Tony nominee Barber helmed by artistic director Gordon Edelstein (October 11–November 5). The production will be followed Posner and Potok’s The Chosen, adapted from Potok’s novel of the same name (November 22–December 17).

In the new year, playwright Cho will return to the New Haven theatre with her newest work Office Hour (January 17–February 11, 2018), to be followed by Ludwig’s Sherlock Holmes comedic mystery, Baskerville (February 28–March 25, 2018).

Closing out the season will be the gospel musical Crowns, centered on a group of African-American women and their church community, which Taylor has adapted from the book by Michael Cunningham and Craig Marberry. Performances will run April 18–May 13, 2018.
