Club44 Records, as previously reported, will release Jim Caruso’s The Swing Set: Deluxe Edition, the baritone’s exploration of the Great American Songbook, April 18 in streaming and digital formats. The re-release will feature two new tracks.
Listen to the album’s first single—the newly recorded “Avalon,” featuring the
vocals of Caruso, Jane Monheit, and Billy Stritch—above. The song, which debuted in 1920, was written by Al Jolson, Buddy DeSylva, and Vincent Rose. To pre-save the single, which will be released April 4, click here.
Also new to The Swing Set is Caruso's rendition of the breakup song “One More Minute,” Weird Al Yankovic’s longtime crowd favorite.
On the remastered The Swing Set, Caruso interprets such tunes as “If I Only Had a Brain,” “Manhattan,” “Pick Yourself Up,” “Flexible,” “The Doodlin’ Song,” and “I Love a Violin.” Musical guests include Michael Feinstein, late guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, violinist Aaron Weinstein, Stritch, Monheit, and Tony winner Stephanie J. Block.
To celebrate the album, Jim Caruso’s Cast Party—his popular
open mic night—will be offered at Catalina Jazz Club in Los Angeles May
28; The McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert, California, May 29; with
upcoming stops at London’s Crazy Coqs in September and Las Vegas’ The
Smith Center in October.
Cast Party also continues its 20+ year run at New York’s Birdland Jazz Club every Monday night.
“I’m absolutely delighted to announce the re-release of The Swing Set!,” Caruso said in a recent statement. “Originally recorded and released in 2011, this album was a true labor of love, produced by Michael Croiter and Aaron Weinstein, with Aaron also creating the masterful arrangements—work that was, and still is, absolutely stellar. Now, thanks to the wonderful folks at Club44 Records, The Swing Set will once again be available, joining my most recent recordings on the label. I can’t wait for everyone to rediscover this joy-filled collection.”
Caruso was seen on Broadway in Liza's at the Palace…
