The Phantom of the Opera turned 35 on October 9, having premiered on that date in 1986 at Her Majesty's Theatre in London's West End, and BBC Radio 2 is celebrating the milestone with a series of audio documentaries available for international on-demand listening.
Welsh stage and screen star Luke Evans (Beauty and the Beast) narrates Celebrating 35 Years of Phantom of the Opera, a two-hour documentary looking at the record-breaking musical with interviews from original and current cast and company members chronicling the Phantom's first moments on stage to the show's post-pandemic return this season.
The Phantom of the Opera has music by Lloyd Webber, lyrics by Charles Hart (with additional lyrics by Richard Stilgoe), and a book by Stilgoe and Lloyd Webber. It is Broadway's longest-running musical, opening at the Majestic Theatre January 26, 1988.
