Cast Recordings & Albums Listen: Maleah Joi Moon Debuts a New Alicia Keys Song Written for Hell's Kitchen

The Broadway musical inspired by the 15-time Grammy winner's life and featuring a score of her songs will begin performances at the Shubert Theatre March 28.

Broadway's upcoming Alicia Keys musical Hell's Kitchen has released a single ahead of the start of previews, set for March 28 at the Shubert Theatre. Hear leading lady Maleah Joi Moon, starring as Ali, lead the company in "Kaleidoscope," a new song with music and lyrics by Keys, above. The track is now available on all streaming platforms via Alicia Keys Records.

Moon will be on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform the number March 22.

Hell's Kitchen features music and lyrics by Keys and a book by Kristoffer Diaz. Inspired by the 15-time Grammy winner's life, the story centers on 17-year-old Ali (Moon) and her mother, sharing a cramped apartment near Times Square. Ali wants to live out her NYC dream, but Mom is scared her daughter will repeat her own mistakes. The musical played a world premiere run Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in 2023.

Along with Moon, the cast of the show is set to be led by Shoshana Bean (Wicked) as Jersey, Brandon Victor Dixon (Hamilton) as Davis, Kecia Lewis (Ain't Misbehavin') as Miss Liza Jane, and Chris Lee (Hamilton) as Knuck. 

The company also includes Chad Carstarphen as Ray, Vanessa Ferguson as Tiny, Jakeim Hart as Q, Jackie Leon as Jessica, Nyseli Vega as Millie, Lamont Walker II as Riq, and Rema Webb as Crystal, alongside ensemble members Reid Clarke, Chloe Davis, Nico DeJesus, Timothy L. Edwards, David Guzman, Raechelle Manalo, Sarah Parker, and Niki Saludez. Rounding out the company as swings are Desmond Sean Ellington, Badia Farha, Gianna Harris, Takia “Tiki” Hopson, Jade Milan, Onyxx Noel, Susan Oliveras, Aaron Nicholas Patterson, William Roberson, and Oscar Whitney Jr. Donna Vivino will serve as standby for Jersey. Casting is by Heidi Griffiths and Kate Murray.

Michael Greif is directing with Camille A. Brown serving as choreographer, both reprising their work from the Off-Broadway premiere.

The music team includes music director Lily Ling, orchestrators Adam Blackstone and Tom Kitt, and arrangements by Keys and Blackstone. The creative team also includes scenic designer Robert Brill, costume designer Dede Ayite, lighting designer Natasha Katz, sound designer Gareth Owen, projection designer Peter Nigrini, hair and wig designer Mia Neal, and makeup designer Michael Clifton. Foresight Theatrical is general manager, and Danny Maly will serve as production stage manager.

AKW Productions is producing the Broadway run, with Aaron Lustbader serving as executive producer.
