Lincoln Center Theater's Broadway revival of Lerner and Loewe's Camelot plays its final performance July 23 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. It began previews March 9 and officially opened April 13. As of its final performance, the production will have run for 38 previews and 115 regular performances.
The new take on the Golden Age musical features a new book by To Kill a Mockingbird playwright Aaron Sorkin, based on Lerner's original, which notably took away the story's magical elements and gave it more modern edge. Merlyn became just a trusted friend, and Morgan Le Fey a woman of science. The classic King Arthur tale is based on the novel The Once and Future King by T.H. White, set to the classic score with lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe.
The legend's love triangle remains central to the story, in the revival played by Andrew Burnap as Arthur, Phillipa Soo as Guenevere, Jordan Donica as Lancelot Du Lac. The cast also includes Dakin Matthews as Merlyn and Pellinore, Taylor Trensch as Mordred, Marilee Talkington as Morgan Le Fey, Camden McKinnon as Tom of Warwick, Anthony Michael Lopez as Sir Dinadan, Fergie Philippe as Sir Sagramore, and Danny Wolohan as Sir Lionel.
