Performances for Down the Road will run through Aug. 16.

In the piece, Bono stars as convicted serial killer Bill Reach, who is interviewed by a married couple, hired to write the account of his crimes - the murder of 19 women. It is described as both "horrifying" and "delighting."

Bono told the LA Times that he was inspired to start his own production company after finding it difficult to secure work. "I'm a guy just trying to make a living as an actor just like thousands of others," he told the publication.

"As professional actors, it often feels like we have so little control over our careers, and the same can be said for our partners in story telling, writers, producers and directors. This was my main impetus for wanting to start Phoenix Fire Productions," Bono writes on the Phoenix Fire Productions website. "I wanted to take a more proactive role in my own career, work on material that I found exciting, with people who’s work turned me on and who’s work ethic I respected."

Having acted in eight theatrical productions over the last two years, Bono goes on to describe himself as a "life-long theater enthusiast," and that he hopes "to bring the same passion and professionalism" to his productions that he has witnessed in past jobs. Visit PhxFireProds for more information.  In speaking with the LA Times, Bono explained that his main goal for the future was to establish himself as a serious actor--and launching his own production company was a way of exercising more control over that career choice. "People have a very fixed idea of me and who I am, and because of that it makes it hard to get seen for [roles]," he said, alluding to his very public transition as a trans individual and subsequent documentary and stint on "Dancing with the Stars". 

"It took a long time to get back into it, but once I started again, it became apparent to me quickly that this was all I could do, something I had to continue to do until I got successful at it," he told the LA Times. "People won't see me doing anything else."
