“Mozart in the Jungle,” the new TV series about the classical music industry featuring Bernadette Peters, took home the award for Best Musical or Comedy Television Series; and its star, Gael García Bernal, was awarded Best Actor in a Comedy TV Series.
"The Revenant" won the Best Motion Picture Drama award and "The Martian" was awarded the top prize for Best Motion Picture Musical or Comedy.
Rachel Bloom, who stars in the musical comedy series "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend," was named Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy.
Stage stars who garnered Golden Globe nominations this year included Al Pacino, Viola Davis, Mark Rylance, Lily Tomlin, Alan Cumming, Maggie Smith, Eddie Redmayne, Uzo Aduba, Judith Light, Patrick Stewart, Bryan Cranston, Patrick Wilson, Helen Mirren, Saoirse Ronan and Jeffrey Tambor, but all went home empty-handed
One exception was Tony-winning stage and screen star Denzel Washington, who was named the recipient of the Cecil B. De Mille Award for lifetime achievement. He announced last fall that he is overseeing adaptations of all ten of playwright August Wilson's "Century Cycle" plays for HBO.
The Golden Globe Awards are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.
