Hair and Spring Awakening actor Kyle Riabko is taking a fresh look at the work of Broadway composer Richard Rodgers with his latest album and upcoming concerts titled Richard Rodgers Reimagined.
Riabko will perform selections from the album with his band at Joe's Pub in New York City on November 2, 3, and 4, and in Los Angeles at The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in November 10 and 11.
The album and concerts explore Rodgers' work with both of his major lyricists: Lorenz Hart, with whom he wrote musicals including Babes in Arms and Pal Joey; and and Oscar Hammerstein II, with whom he wrote Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, and other shows. This release follows Riabko's international success with Close to You: Bacharach Reimagined, which premiered at New York Theatre Workshop in 2014 under the title What's It All About?
As he did with Bacharach's catalog, Riabko has created new arrangements, bringing his modern pop/rock sensibilities to the classic tunes of the Richard Rodgers songbook. Riabko says he found inspiration for this latest effort after seeing a letter of admiration that Rodgers wrote to Bacharach.
