On November 14, Wickedheld a New York premiere of the new film adaptation at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Hosted by Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, attendees included the film's stars, composer Stephen Schwartz, and Broadway faces such as Kristin Chenoweth, Lea Michelle, Micaela Diamond, Alex Newell, and more. See Playbill's Jeffrey Vizcaíno interview the stars in the video above.
On the red carpet, Wicked original cast member Chenoweth (who played Glinda onstage), was teary-eyed, saying, "I was hoping I'd be alive to see it. I didn't know that I would be! I didn't know if they'd make the movie." She chuckled, adding, "The fact that they did and I'm here to see and I get to enjoy the legacy of it and that it's in my DNA. And now it's in their hands and they can take it now and run."
The film's director Jon M. Chu dished that he actually had the film's stars, Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, over to his house after they were cast. Composer Stephen Schwartz was there too. "They came to my house, in the living room, and sang 'For Good,' with Stephen Schwartz on the piano. It was the most magical thing I had ever seen...Then we knew we had a movie."
