The Sam Gold-helmed production of King Lear, starring Oscar and Tony winner Glenda Jackson in the title role, closes June 9 (instead of the initially announced July 7). With its final performance, the Broadway revival will have played 34 previews and 76 regular performances at the Cort Theatre.
The production earned a single Tony Award nomination in April: Best Featured Actress in a Play for Ruth Wilson, who takes on the dual roles of Cordelia and the Fool. The 73rd annual ceremony takes place shortly after the company's final bows..
Rounding out the principal cast are Jayne Houdyshell as Earl of Gloucester, Elizabeth Marvel as Goneril, Aisling O’Sullivan as Regan, Pedro Pascal as Edmund, and John Douglas Thompson as Earl of Kent.
The company also features Russell Harvard as Duke of Cornwall, Michael Arden as the Aide to Cornwall, Sean Carvajal as Edgar, Ian Lassiter as the King of France, Justin Cunningham as the Duke of Burgundy, Dion Johnstone as Duke of Albany, and Matthew Maher as Oswald. Rounding out the company are Che Ayende, Therese Barbato, Stephanie Roth Haberle, Daniel Marmion, and John McGinty.
