Joe’s Pub at the Public has sold out performances of Kiki and Herb’s Seeking Asylum!, the brand-new show from Mx Justin Vivian Bond and Kenny Mellman. The cabaret act is part of the venue’s year-long retrospective of Bond’s career, reuniting the duo after almost a decade.
Kiki and Herb premiered in San Francisco in 1992 and retired in 2007 following a Tony-nominated run on Broadway, two sold-out Carnegie Hall performances, two albums, an award-winning Off-Broadway show and countless acclaimed downtown performances.
The duo returns to Joe’s Pub for a limited debut engagement. Performances of Seeking Asylum! begin April 21 and are scheduled to run through May 22. There will be a limited number of free tickets also available at the box office.
“Vivian and Kenny have a chemistry that is unmatched,” commented Shanta Thake, director of Joe’s Pub, in a press statement. “Seeing them as Kiki and Herb was a combination of mayhem and magic that, until now, lived only in memories. As we have watched them grow separately as powerhouse performers, the downtown cabaret scene, which they helped establish, has flourished on our stage. To say we are thrilled and honored that they are reuniting in our room is an understatement. We can’t wait to welcome the scores of fans and friends, new and old, to see the insane wonder of Kiki and Herb live!”
Seeking Asylum! is also part of New York Voices, Joe’s Pub artist commissioning program. For more information visit www.joespub.com.
