Songbook Sundays, Deborah Grace Winer's celebration of the American Songbook, continues at Jazz at Lincoln Center February 5 at 5 PM and 7:30 PM.
Entitled Bewitched, Bothered and Rodgers and Hart, the concerts at Dizzy’s Club spotlight the songs of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. Interpreting the duo's classics are Tony nominees Kenita Miller (for colored girls who have considered suicide / when the rainbow is enuf) and Emily Skinner (Side Show) plus Jarvis B. Manning, Jr. (Some Like It Hot).
Winer also hosts the performances, which will feature such tunes as "My Romance," "Manhattan," "I Wish I Were in Love Again," "Where or When," "Bewitched," and more. Music director Ted Rosenthal leads a band that includes Houston Person on tenor saxophone, Ruby Farmer on bass, and Zach Adleman on drums.
The songwriting team of Rodgers (music) and Hart (lyrics) penned the scores for A Connecticut Yankee, The Boys From Syracuse, On Your Toes, Babes in Arms, I Married an Angel, By Jupiter, and Pal Joey. Among their hundreds of songs are such titles as "Mountain Greenery," "Ten Cents a Dance," "Spring Is Here," "Isn't It Romantic?," "Blue Moon," "My Romance," "Little Girl Blue," "I Wish I Were in Love Again," "Where or When," "My Funny Valentine," "Johnny One Note," "The Lady Is a Tramp," "Falling in Love with Love," "Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered," and "There's a Small Hotel."
Tickets are $45-$55 with student tickets available at $25. There is also a $21 food/drink minimum. Visit Jazz.org/dizzys.
