Griffin will play the Broadway venue March 11-12 at 8 PM, March 13 at 3 PM, March 14 at 8 PM, March 15 at 7 PM, March 16-18 at 8 PM and March 19 at 2 PM and 8 PM.
Emmy winner Griffin not only wants to win a Tony Award, she would also be happy to host the annual ceremony, which will be held June 12 at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. Griffin told Playbill.com March 9, "I would be thrilled to host the Tonys. … I swear to you, if I ever did have that privilege, I wouldn't swear. I don't get those gigs sometimes because I know they really think I honestly can't control myself. But, you know, this year [at] New Year's Eve with Anderson Cooper, I didn't swear. I knew I wasn't going to swear. I would actually … be a good host for the Tonys because I would certainly have them laughing but I wouldn't be scary. I will say, though, that if you come see my show, that's gonna be f*ckin' scary, and I'm absolutely gonna swear and offend everybody."
In a previous statement, Griffin said, "While I have been asked to understudy for Spider-Man and take over for Al when he has finished his run in The Merchant of Venice, instead I have decided to take my very own show to Broadway. Just me and the microphone. Every night will be fresh material due to the revolving door of pop culture, political and celebrity missteps. I won’t be able to hold back. If you are in the market for an evening of laughter, swearing and negativity you’ve found the right show!"
"Dishing on all pop culture and shining a light on inappropriate water cooler talk Kathy Griffin Wants a Tony," according to press notes, "will feature all new material about her hilarious observations and run-ins with celebrities. Let's just say Broadway may never be the same again!"
