Broadway favorite and cabaret star Karen Akers returns to Birdland Jazz Club for a concert evening May 27.
The Nine and Grand Hotel original cast member is giving an encore performance of her concert Water Under the Bridge, which explores the songs that helped put her on the map. Attendees can expect to hear tunes by Craig Carnelia, Maury Yeston, Edith Piaf, Stephen Sondheim, and more.
Akers was a Tony nominee for her performance as Louisa Contini in the original company of Nine and also appeared on Broadway in Grand Hotel. She has made the bulk of her career as a cabaret artist, winning Outstanding Female Cabaret Vocalist at the 2005 New York Nightlife Awards, and a Nightlife Legend Award in 2009. Akers has played Carnegie Hall, The Hollywood Bowl, the Cafe Carlyle, and the Oak Room, along with international venues like Liceu Opera House in Barcelona and London's Crazy Coqs.
