Justin Peck won the Tony for Best Choreography at the 77th Annual Tony Awards, held at Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater June 16. This is the artist's second Tony win.
"I love theatre with all my heart, and I'll be forever thankful to this community for embracing a musical that harnesses the profound power of dance on Broadway," said Peck onstage while accepting his Tony.

Peck was honored for his choreography of the dance musical Illinoise, which plays the St. James Theatre. Peck, who also directed and co-wrote the book for the production, previously won a Tony for his choreography of the 2018 revival of Carousel, which marked his Broadway debut.
Others in the Best Choreography category included Here Lies Love's Annie-B Parson, Hell's Kitchen's Camille A. Brown, The Outsiders' Rick Kuperman and Jeff Kuperman, and Water for Elephants' Jesse Robb and Shana Carroll.
Following an out-of-town engagement and a limited Off-Broadway run, Illinoise began performances and opened on Broadway April 24 at the St. James. The musical is inspired by Sufjan Stevens' album Illinois and features direction and choreography by Peck. The musical's story is by Peck and Pulitzer winner Jackie Sibblies Drury (Fairview). The production is set around a campfire as dancers, singers, and a live band lead audiences on an epic journey set to Stevens' music, arranged by Timo Andres.
The Broadway production picked up four Tony nominations, including Best Musical,
Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations, and Best Lighting Design.
