International News Jonathan Hyde and Ben Allen to Star in U.K. Premiere of Martin Sherman’s Gently Down the Stream The acclaimed Bent playwright explores an emotional debate on gay marriage in his latest play, which arrives in London February 13.

Jonathan Hyde, Ben Allen, and Harry Lawtey have been cast in the London premiere of Gently Down the Stream, the new play from Bent creator Martin Sherman that will begin previews February 13 at the Park Theatre. Opening night is set for February 18.

In Gently Down the Stream, Beau, a pianist expat living in London at the dawn of the internet dating revolution, begins a relationship with Rufus, an eccentric and eager young lawyer.

Hyde (Frost/Nixon, Titanic) will star as Beau opposite Allen (The Country Wife, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows) as Rufus. Lawtey plays Harry.

Through the lens of an inter-generational gay relationship, Sherman examines the rapid evolution of LGBT rights and long-carried inner struggles within the LGTBT community.

The creative includes scenic designer Lee Newby, lighting designer Jamie Platt, sound designer and composer Lex Kosanke, and casting director Lucy Casson.

Robert Fox and Alex Turner produce the London premiere that is set to commemorate Sherman’s 80th birthday and the 40th anniversary of Bent’s London world premiere.
