It will feature choreography by Broadway's Joey McKneely and star Rebecca Caine — who originated the role of Cosette in the original production of Les Miserables for the RSC and in the West End, and subsequently played Christine in the Canadian premiere of The Phantom of the Opera — as Katisha.
Directed by Thom Southerland, it is described in press materials as a "Hobson’s Choice-inspired take on The Mikado, set in the Titipu Umbrella and Fan Factory, owned by The Mikado. All the familiar characters and songs remain intact, including Yum-Yum, Peep-Bo, Pitti-Sing, who sing the classic 'Three little maids from school are we,' as workers in the department providing fans for local schools." The score will be performed acoustically on two baby grand pianos, under the musical direction of Iain Vincent Gatt.
The production features designs by Phil Lindley, costumes by Jonathan Lipman and lighting by Mike Robertson. It is produced by Steven M. Levy and Sean Sweeney.
The production also features Mark Heenehan in the title role, who recently played Brannigan in Chichester Festival Theatre’s production of Guys & Dolls and Peron in the U.K. tour of Evita.
The cast also includes Matthew Crowe, Leigh Coggins, Hugh Osborne, Steve Watts, Jacob Chapman, Sophie Rohan, Cassandra McCowan, Alyssa Martin, Kayleigh McKnight, Andrew Dovaston, Josh Wylie, Zac Wancke and George Tebbutt.
