Girl From the North Country Tony nominee Jeannette Bayardelle will step into the role of Angélique in the Tony-nominated musical & Juliet beginning June 29 at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre.

Bayardelle, whose Broadway credits also include Hair and The Color Purple, is temporarily replacing Charity Angél Dawson, who is taking a leave of absence from the production due to a nerve-related medical issue.

Dawson spoke about her leave of absence in a recent emotional Instagram post, revealing that she's actually been out of the show for several weeks already.

The Broadway cast of & Juliet currently features Maya Boyd as Juliet, Olivier winner David Bedella as Lance, Tony nominee Betsy Wolfe as Anne Hathaway, Austin Scott as Shakespeare, Justin David Sullivan as May, Ben Jackson Walker as Romeo, and Philippe Arroyo as Francois.

The ensemble includes Daniel Assetta, Andrew Chappelle, Michael Iván Carrier, Phil Colgan, Virgil Gadson, Najah Hetsberger, Makai Hernandez, Bobby “Pocket” Horner, Joomin Hwang, Megan Kane, Alaina Vi Maderal, Daniel J. Maldonado, Brittany Nicholas, Ava Noble, Jasmine Rafael, Matt Raffy, Tiernan Tunnicliffe, and Rachel Webb.

The jukebox musical, nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical, flips the script on the William Shakespeare classic, imagining what would happen next if Juliet hadn’t ended it all over Romeo. Featuring a book by David West Read, the score includes a mix of tunes by Max Martin and more, including “Since U Been Gone,” “Roar,” “I Want It That Way,” and “Confident.”

The production also has direction by Luke Sheppard, choreography by Jennifer Weber, musical supervision, orchestrations, and arrangements by Bill Sherman, scenic design by Soutra Gilmour, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Howard Hudson, sound design by Gareth Owen, video projection design by Andrzej Goulding, hair, wig, and makeup design by J. Jared Janas, and musical direction and additional orchestrations by Dominic Fallacaro.

U.S. casting is by Stephen Kopel and Carrie Gardner.

The international hit musical, which opened at the Sondheim November 17, 2022, is the first new musical of the 2022–2023 Broadway season to announce its recoupment. The Main Stem production has grossed more than $93,000,000 and welcomed more than 650,000 audience members to date.

This year, & Juliet will launch a U.K. tour (in July), a North American tour (in September), and a German production (in October), marking the sixth country to welcome the show in less than five years since its West End premiere in 2019. With productions in Australia (currently in Sydney through July 12) and Singapore, & Juliet has now played on four continents.
