Lyric Opera of Chicago has laid out details of its upcoming 2019–2020 season, including six new or new-to-Chicago productions.

In spring 2020, Lyric will offer a new staging of Wagner’s four-part Ring cycle, presented in its entirety three times. David Pountney will direct a cast that features Christine Goerke as Brünnhilde, Eric Owens as Wotan, and Burkhard Fritz as Siegfried. Andrew Davis will conduct all three cycles, as well as two additional performances of the fourth and final part, Götterdämmerung.

Also new to Chicago are Francesca Zambello’s production of Verdi’s Luisa Miller (beginning October 12), Patricia Racette and Susan Graham in the Lyric premiere of Jake Heggie and Terrence McNally’s Dead Man Walking (November 2), Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades with Sondra Radvanovsky and Brandon Jovanovich, and the Lyric premiere of Jeanine Tesori and Tazewell Thompson’s Blue (June 19, 2020).

The season will conclude with 42nd Street as part of the Broadway at Lyric series, bringing a staging from Paris’ Théâtre du Chátelet to the U.S.

The roster also includes productions The Barber of Seville, which kicks off the season September 28, Don Giovanni, and Madama Butterfly, as well as special semi-staged presentations of Donizetti’s three queen operas (Anna Bolena, Maria Stuarda, and Roberto Devereux, known informally as the “Tudor Trilogy”), sung by Radvanovsky, who sang all three at the Metropolitan Opera in the 2015–2016 season. Bryn Terfel will also return to the Lyric for a recital in February 2020.
