Music Theatre International has released the stage adaptation of the 2022 movie musical 1660 Vine for licensing. The work, which premiered on Broadway On Demand in 2022 and is currently streaming via Amazon Prime, follows a group of social media influencers living together in a Hollywood apartment while they pursue their dreams of viral stardom.
The stage version features a book by the film's screenwriter, Jackson Prince, and songs by a group of songwriters including Emma Ashford, Jenna Clayborn, CJ Cruz, Clayton Delp, Jaxson Floberg, Will Francis, Sam Jackson, Prince, and Simon White.
"We conceived of a story that speaks to the opportunities and challenges that young people face in this social-media-obsessed world," says Prince in a statement. "I’m excited to see how high schoolers, college students, and other stage artists of all generations will bring their own experiences and reflections to the show."
The stage version premiered with a pilot production at Hollywood High School in Los Angeles, California. That staging, which performed in 2022, was chronicled by a documentary film crew. The resulting film, 1660 Vine at Hollywood High, also streams via Amazon Prime. A cast album is also available on all streaming platforms via Lakeshore Records.
1660 Vine was directed for the screen by New York Theatre Workshop Artistic Director Patricia McGregor and featured choreography by Paul Abdul and music supervision from the team behind Disney's High School Musical franchise.
"We are very excited to represent this brand-new musical," adds MTI President and CEO Drew Cohen. "Embracing the world of the lifestyle influencer proved to be both timely and clever, but empowering the influencers themselves to create the content was brilliant, given that content-creation is what they do best. It will be exciting to see 1660 Vine on stages of all sizes around the country."
