Roundabout Theatre Company has announced the lineup of playwrights for its 2024 Underground Reading Series. Now in its 16th season, the five-night series features new works by emerging artists in nightly readings.
This year, the reading series will include Dylan Guerra'a The Grief Eater Near North Bender, Matthew Libby's Data, Alex Lin's Chinese Republicans, Ankita Raturi's No One Plays Badminton in America, and Arun Welandawe-Prematilleke's The Present. Readings will be held February 12-16, 2024 at 5:00 PM at the Black Box Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.
The Roundabout Underground series is part of Roundabout's New Play Initiative. In addition to the Black Box productions, each playwright receives a commission for a future play, and Roundabout aims to provide them with long-term development and production support.
Playwrights whose work has been featured in Roundabout Underground in the past include Stephen Karam (Speech & Debate), Steven Levenson (The Language of Trees), Adam Gwon (Ordinary Days), Kim Rosenstock (Tigers Be Still), David West Read (The Dream of the Burning Boy), Andrew Hinderaker (Suicide, Incorporated), Joshua Harmon (Bad Jews), Meghan Kennedy (Too Much, Too Much, Too Many), Jeff Augustin (Little Children Dream of God), Lindsey Ferrentino (Ugly Lies the Bone), Jenny Rachel Weiner (Kingdom Come), Mansa Ra (Too Heavy for Your Pocket), Martín Zimmerman (On the Exhale), Ming Peiffer (Usual Girls), Alex Lubischer (Bobbie Clearly), Selina Fillinger (Something Clean), Daniel Zaitchik (Darling Grenadine), Sanaz Toossi (English), Dave Harris (Exception to the Rule), Harrison David Rivers (the bandaged place), and York Walker (Covenant).
Underwriting support for the series is provided by Salman and Vienn Al-Rashid, and readings and workshops at Roundabout are supported, in part, by the Blanche and Irving Laurie Foundation.
