The Curtain's new adaptation of William Shakespeare's Macbeth officially opens October 13 following previews that began October 10 at the Nimbus Arts Center in downtown Jersey City. The limited engagement is scheduled to continue through November 3.
West End and Royal Shakespeare Company actor Jamie Ballard, who played the title role in London's Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, makes his American stage debut in the title role, joined by Aria Shahghasemi (Prayer for the French Republic, Legacies) as Macduff.
Directed and adapted by Sean Hagerty, the cast also features Christianna Nelson as Lady Macbeth, Nathalie Barclay (Killing Eve) as Lady Macduff, Jonathan Crimeni (Burn This) as Malcolm, Cooper Grodin (The Phantom of the Opera) as Banquo, and Joe Penczak as Duncan/Dr. with Yair Ben-Dor, Cyrus Carrillo, Sean Gallagher, Julio Cesar Gutierrez, Emma Kantor, Priyanka Kedia, Alfred C. Kemp, Gilda Mercado, Jomack Miranda, and Joey Pittorino. Casting is by Robin Carus.
The Curtain production of Shakespeare’s classic tale of witchcraft, madness, and ruthless ambition is set in an intimate and haunting candlelit environment.
The staging also has costume design by
William Ward, lighting design by Sarah Johnston, fight direction by Brad
Lemons, and voice and text coaching by Maggie Surovell. Casting is by Robin Carus.
