David Cale’s Harry Clarke, starring Emmy winner Billy Crudup, will make its West End debut beginning March 9 at the Ambassadors Theatre.
Leigh Silverman will again direct the solo show, which recently broke records at Berkeley Rep’s Roda Theatre, where it played a limited engagement November 15-December 23, 2023.
Crudup first starred in the solo play for Off-Broadway's The Vineyard Theatre in November 2017.
The play casts Crudup as a shy, Midwestern man masquerading as a highbrow Londoner who
has
recently moved to New York City. As he charms his way into a wealthy
family’s life, his increasingly risky and dangerous behavior threatens
to unravel his persona.
Crudup said in a statement, “I
love London and I have loved seeing theatre in London for decades. West
End theatregoers are some of the most discerning, intelligent, and
hungry audiences in the world. I'm grateful to be given the opportunity
to share the work Leigh, David, myself and all our producers have
created on the London stage.”

Crudup earned a Tony Award in 2007 for his performance in The Coast of Utopia. He received previous nominations for the 2002 revival of The Elephant Man, The Pillowman, and in the 2011 production of Arcadia. He has since appeared on Broadway in the repertory productions of Waiting for Godot and No Man’s Land.
“With audiences regrowing from the pandemic for the past two years, it was extraordinary to experience the electricity of these sold-out, standing-room-only performances,” says Berkeley Rep Managing Director Tom Parrish in a statement. “David Cale’s intricately woven play helmed by Leigh Silverman and Billy Crudup’s captivating, tour-de-force performance were the talk of the town. The Bay Area is producing incredible theatrical work, and it is thrilling that audiences across the globe will get to experience it, too.”
The creative team includes scenic designer Alexander Dodge, costume designer Kaye Voyce, lighting designer Alan C. Edwards, sound designer Bart Fasbender, vocal coach Deborah Lapidus, and dialect coaches Deborah Hecht and Jessica Berman with original songs by Cale.
