Broadway News Harmony Celebrates Rosh Hashanah at the Barrymore Theatre September 14

The Broadway musical will ring in the Jewish New Year with a blessing and traditional refreshments.

Barry Manilow and Bruce Sussman's Harmony invites the public to celebrate Rosh Hashanah at the Barrymore Theatre Thursday, September 14 at 1:30 PM. Cast members, playwright and lyricist Sussman, and The Actor's Temple Rabbi Jill Hausman welcome any and all to join them in ringing in the Jewish New Year.  

Attendees can partake in a blessing, a traditional nosh of apples, honey, and rugelach, and a sneak peek at the theatre as the new Broadway musical prepares to take the stage. Harmony begins previews at the Barrymore October 18, with an official opening November 13. 

The musical features a score by Tony, Grammy, and Emmy Award winner Manilow, lyrics and a book by Drama Desk Award Winner Sussman, and direction and choreography by Tony award-winner Warren Carlyle

Harmony stars Chip Zien; Sierra Boggess; Julie Benko; the Comedian Harmonists Sean Bell, Danny Kornfeld, Zal Owen, Eric Peters, Blake Roman, and Steven Telsey; Allison Semmes; and Andrew O’Shanick. Rounding out the company are Zak Edwards, Dan Hoy, Bruce Landry, RhonniRose Mantilla, Daniel Z. Miller, Benjamin H. MooreMatthew Mucha, Constantine Pappas, Kayleen Seidl, Kyla Stone, Bronwyn Tarboton, Kate Wesler, Stuart Zagnit, and Lee Zarrett.

The show tells the true story of The Comedian Harmonists, a Berlin singing group made up of six young men. In the 1920s and 1930s they were widely successful, with sold-out shows, popular records, and blockbuster films. After 1935, they were never heard from again. Harmony is based in part on The Comedian Harmonist Archive, curated by the late Dr. Peter Czada. Five of the six Harmonists are making their Broadway debuts, and the cast album is available now.

The creative team includes scenic designer Beowulf Boritt, costume designers Linda Cho and Ricky Lurie, lighting designers Jules Fisher and Peggy Eisenhauer, sound designer Dan Moses Schreier, wig and hair designer Tom Watson, music director John O'Neill, music coordinator Michael Aarons, and production stage manager Scott Taylor Rollison. Orchestrations are by Doug Walter, and casting is by Jamibeth Margolis.
