Two fellow Off-Broadway veterans will join Halley Feiffer in the world premiere of her play The Pain of My Belligerence. New to the cast are Hamish Linklater as Guy and Vanessa Kai as Yuki.
Performances will run March 29 through May 12 at Playwrights Horizons. Feiffer's longtime collaborator Trip Cullman directs, having helmed a developmental presentation at New York Stage and Film earlier this month.
Feiffer, whose additional plays include I'm Gonna Pray for You So Hard and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center of New York City, plays Cat, a 20-something journalist whose ambition is put at stake after she encounters Guy (Linklater), who's charismatic, crass, and married. The playwright began developing the play in the months leading up to the 2016 election after observing the hypocrisies of those calling out yet perpetuating and enabling toxic masculinity.
Linklater returns to Playwrights Horizons after The Busy World Is Hushed and Recent Tragic Events. His additional stage credits include Broadway's Seminar and a host of Shakespeare in the Park productions with the Public Theater. Kai has previously appeared Off-Broadway in KPOP (earning a Lucille Lortel nomination) and Second Stage Theater's Somebody's Daughter.
The production will feature sets by Mark Wendland, costumes by Paloma Young, lighting design by Ben Stanton, and sound design and original music by Elisheba Ittoop.
