Tony-winning Hamilton director Thomas Kail, who scored a ratings hit with Fox’s 2016 broadcast of Grease Live!—picking up two Emmy Awards and a development deal along the way—is working on a new, live interactive TV sitcom for the network, according to Deadline.com.
New Girl executive producers Dave Finkel and Brett Baer co-wrote Immediate Family, a comedy about “a real-life hero who’s convinced he’s the only one who can keep his super-diverse, super screwed-up family from falling apart.”

Kail signed on to direct and develop the show with a script plus penalty commitment from Fox, which requires the network to pay the creators a significant sum if the pilot goes unproduced or is never aired. The project is part of a development deal Kail and his production company Old 320 Sycamore signed with Fox last summer.
Kail, Finkel, Baer, and Kate Sullivan, head of development for Old 320 Sycamore, executive produce.
