Film & TV News Glee Will Begin Streaming on Disney+ and Hulu in June

The Ryan Murphy musical series arrives on the streamers June 1 in celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride month.

Glee has found its new streaming homes on Disney+ and Hulu after leaving Netflix December 1, 2021. The 11-time Emmy Award-winning show by co-creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy arrives on the streamers June 1 in celebration of LGBTQIA+ pride month. 

First premiering on Fox in 2009, the musical comedy ran for six seasons until 2015. The show follows a high school Glee Club on their journey to show choir fame. The core cast featured a variety of stage favorites including Lea Michele as Broadway-bound Rachel Berry; Matthew Morrison as Glee Club coach Mr. Schuester; Jenna Ushkowitz as shy Tina Cohen-Chang; Jane Lynch as Glee club rival and cheerleader coach Sue Sylvester; and more, including guest performances from Idina Menzel, Kristen Chenoweth and Jonathan Groff

Upon its release, the series reached critical acclaim and was nominated for 19 Emmy Awards (winning two), 10 Golden Globes (winning four), and 34 Teen Choice Awards (winning 15). While airing, the series tackled conversations surrounding teenage pregnancy, bullying, and sexuality. In 2011, a concert film was released titled Glee: The Concert Movie, which featured original cast members from the show's first two seasons performing as their characters.

The show was created by Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Ian Brennan, who later reunited to create Netflix's The Politican (starring Dear Evan Hansen's Ben Platt). The trio also served as executive producers.
