Bless our souls! A new production of Disney's Hercules is now playing Hamburg's Theater Neue Flora in Germany. Check out highlights from the production in the video above.
Hercules was presented in the U.S. during the Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park series in 2019, as well as at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse in early 2023. The German production is distinct from these versions, with direction and choreography by Tony winner Casey Nicholaw, alongside co-choreographer Tanisha Scott.
Benét Monteiro stars in the title role. Watch his rendition of "Go the Distance" ("Endlich Angekommen" in German) in the video below.
The production also stars Mae Ann Jorolan as Meg, Detlef Leistenschneider as Hades, Kristofer Wenstein Storey as Phil, Leslie Beehann as Calliope, Chasity Crisp as Thalia, Venolia as Terpsichore, UZOH as Clio, and Shekinah Mcfarlane as Melpomene. Hope Maine serves as alternate for the role of Hercules.
Based on the 1997 film, Hercules features a book by Robert Horn and Kwame Kwei-Armah, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by David Zippel. The original screenplay is by Ron Clements, John Musker, Donald McEnery, Bob Shaw, and Irene Mecchi.
