George C. Wolfe will write and direct the New Orleans-set series, which takes place during the turn of the twentieth century. The vibrant culture, in which prostitution was legalized, provides a setting for jazz to be born. Jazz is a familiar topic for Wolfe, who directed and wrote the book for Jelly’s Last Jam. The play is about Jelly Roll Morton, whose career began in Storyville. Wolfe's directing credits also include Angels in America; Bring in 'da Noise, Bring in 'da Funk; The Wild Party; and Lucky Guy.

"We’re glad to be working in partnership again with Colin Callender and Playground Entertainment on this series and with one of Broadway’s most respected producers and directors, George C. Wolfe for the first time," Starz managing director Carmi Zlotnik told Deadline.com. "His love and expertise in this particular world will allow us to take viewers back to turn-of-the-century New Orleans during the birth of jazz in the midst of profound corruption."

Colin Callender’s Playground Entertainment, who previously worked with Wolfe on Lucky Guy, is producing.
