PS Classics co-founder Tommy Krasker informed Playbill.com of the news. The Broadway cast assembled April 10 at Avatar Studios to record additional material that has been written since the musical premiered Off-Broadway in fall 2013.
Reached for comment, Krasker told Playbill.com, "There was certainly material that we were eager to see recorded. There were also things that we didn't get around to recording last time, that we felt in hindsight, we really wanted on the album."
A late spring release for the updated album is anticipated. PS Classics expects that the updated version of the album will feature new artwork and images from the Broadway production.
A full announcement is expected early next week with further details. Only a limited amount of copies of the original Off-Broadway cast album are still available.
The Broadway production welcomed several new cast members, including Emily Skeggs, who replaced original cast member Alexandra Socha as Medium Alison. Many members of the original Off-Broadway cast return for the uptown transfer, including stars Beth Malone, Judy Kuhn, Sydney Lucas and Michael Cerveris. Fun Home has music by Tony Award nominee Jeanine Tesori (Caroline, Or Change; Shrek) and book and lyrics by Tony Award nominee Lisa Kron (Well).
This isn't the first time a PS Classics cast album was freshened up for Broadway. The label also returned to the recording studio to update the original Off-Broadway cast album of Grey Gardens when the acclaimed musical transferred to Broadway with additional material and new cast members.
