Freaky Friday, based on the novel
and films of the same name, will make its U.K. stage premiere next year at HOME Manchester.
Directed by Andy Fickman (Heathers the Musical), performances are scheduled for November 27–December 31, 2025. Casting and additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.
Based on the 1972 novel by Mary Rodgers and the film adaptations it inspired, Freaky Friday features a book by Bridget Carpenter and a score by Next to Normal's Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey. The musical was first developed through Disney Theatrical Productions and premiered at Virginia's Signature Theatre in 2016. A TV presentation of the musical adaptation followed in 2018.
The musical follows an overworked mother and her teenage daughter, who magically swap bodies and have just one day to put things right again. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles and learn self-acceptance.
Paul Taylor-Mills (The Lightning Thief, Heathers the Musical) produces.
