Florence Lacey, whose Broadway credits include the original production of Evita, the most recent Broadway revival of Follies, and the 1978 and 1995 revivals of Hello, Dolly!, will play Madame Armfeldt in the Signature Theatre’s upcoming production of the Stephen Sondheim-Hugh Wheeler musical A Little Night Music.

Helmed by Signature Theatre Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer, performances are scheduled for August 15–October 8 in the intimate MAX Theatre in Arlington, Virginia.

Lacey, a Signature favorite who has been seen in the company's stagings of Sunset Boulevard and Titanic, will be joined onstage by Holly Twyford as Desiree Armfeldt, Bobby Smith as Frederik Egerman, Nicki Elledge as Anne, Will Gartshore as Count Carl Magnus, Sam Ludwig as Henrik Egerman, Anna Grace Nowalk as Fredricka, Tracy Lynn Olivera as Countess Charlotte Malcolm, and Maria Rizzo as Petra.

The ensemble is rounded out by Susan Derry, Maria Egler, Benjamin Lurye, Quynh-My Luu, and Kevin McAllister.

Set in 1900 Sweden and revolving around a tangled web of love affairs, Sondheim’s score includes “A Weekend in the Country,” “Liaisons,” and “Send in the Clowns.”

A Little Night Music is one of the only Sondheim shows that I have never had the opportunity to direct,” said Schaeffer in a statement. “It will be wonderful to have Sondheim's beautiful melodies on our stage complimented with a full orchestra and a cast of wonderful Signature actors. It promises to be a magical summer night in the theatre.”

The production will also feature choreography by Karma Camp, musical direction by Jon Kalbfleisch, scenic design by Paul Tate dePoo III, lighting design by Colin K. Bills, costume design by Robert Perdziola, sound design by Ryan Hickey, and wig design by Anne Nesmith. The production stage manager is Kerry Epstein, and the assistant stage manager is Taryn Friend.
