Singer and actor Brandy will have to dust off her glass slippers, because she's set to play Cinderella again, after starring in the 1997 Disney TV movie adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical. According to Variety, the Broadway alum will return to the character for an upcoming Disney+ sequel to The Descendants, titled The Pocketwatch.
This latest entry in the Descendants franchise, which centers around the children of such beloved Disney characters as Belle, Ariel, Ursula, and Maleficent, will follow the daughters of Alice in Wonderland's Queen of Hearts and of Cinderella and Prince Charming. When chaos falls on the kingdom of Auradon, the pair travel back in time via a magical pocket watch created by the Mad Hatter's son to set things straight.
Along with Brandy, the film will feature Jagged Little Pill star Morgan Dudley as Ella (the younger counterpart to Brandy's Cinderella), Broadway Newsies and Les Misérables alum Joshua Colley as Hook, Kylie Cantrall as Red, Mia Baker as Chloe, Rita Ora as Queen of Hearts, China Anne McClain as Uma, Dara Reneé as Ulyana, Ruby Rose Turner Bridget as young Queen of Hearts, and Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother. Jennifer Phang is directing, with a screenplay by Dan Frey and Russell Sommer.
Past Descendants films have featured stage favorites Dove Cameron, Kathy Najimy, Kristin Chenoweth, and Cheyenne Jackson.
Production is expected to begin in early 2023, with a release date to be announced.
