Dominique Morisseau’s play Pipeline heads to PBS February 8 at 9PM ET. The Live From Lincoln Center broadcast of the Off-Broadway production stars Tasha Lawrence, Morocco Omari, Karen Pittman, Namir Smallwood, Jaime Lincoln Smith, and Heather Velasquez.
Pipeline, which first bowed at Lincoln Center Theater in June 2017, is directed by Obie winner Lileana Blain-Cruz. The play was nominated for five Lucille Lortel Awards, including Outstanding Play. Morisseau earned an Obie for the work, as well.
The play follows Nya (Pittman), an inner-city public high school teacher who is desperate to give her son (Smallwood) opportunities her students will never have. When a controversial incident at his private school threatens to get him expelled, Nya must confront his rage and her own choices as a parent.
The production features scenic design by Matt Saunders, costume design by Montana Levi Blanco, lighting design by Li Zhao, sound design by Justin Ellington, and projection design by Hannah Wasileski, with stage management by Charles M. Turner III.
The new musical follows a first-generation child of Mexican immigrants torn between joining the family garment business or embarking on her own dream of attending college in NYC.
