SNL alum Darrell Hammond is bringing a new solo show to Audible Theater's Minetta Lane Off-Broadway. Directed by Christopher Ashley, Cray will play a five-performance limited run January 16–20, 2024.
The performances will mark the work's New York premiere following a run at California's La Jolla Playhouse (where Ashley is artistic director) in 2015 under the title The Darrell Hammond Project. Adapted from Hammond's memoir God, If You're Not Up There, I'm F*cked: Tales of Stand-Up, Saturday Night Live and Other Mind-Altering Mayhem, Cray takes audiences on a trip through the life and mind of a comedian, with Hammond playing more than 60 characters during the performance.
The show will see Hammond returning to the New York theatrical scene for the first time since 2007, when he played a limited run as Douglas Panch in Broadway's The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
Cray will be recorded live for future release by Audible.
The production will feature lighting design by Amanda Zieve, and Garrett Kerr will be production stage manager. Hudson Theatrical Associates' Sean Gorski is providing technical supervision, with Baseline Theatrical's Jonathan Whitton serving as general manager.
