Off-Broadway News Danny Wolohan to Join CSC Revival of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins; Benefit Performance Added

The limited engagement is now set to conclude January 30.

Danny Wolohan will succeed Andy Grotelueschen as Samuel Byck in Classic Stage Company's sold-out production of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Assassins beginning January 14. Grotelueschen is departing to fulfill another commitment.

Wolohan, who originated the role of Boo Radley in the Broadway staging of To Kill a Mockingbird, previously played attempted Nixon assassin Byck in the 2017 City Center Encores! production of Assassins, directed by Anne Kauffman. Wolohan also played Officer Krupke in Ivo van Hove’s Broadway production of West Side Story.

The CSC production, helmed by Artistic Director John Doyle, has also added a 2 PM performance January 30. Tickets for this final performance, a benefit for Classic Stage Company, will go on sale January 13 at noon at ClassicStage.org.

Broadway’s Company, Off-Broadway’s Assassins Honor the Late Stephen Sondheim


The tale of America’s most notorious disruptors opened November 14, and the production was previously extended three weeks (at that time through January 29).

Assassins explores the lives of nine men and women who either killed or tried to kill one of the Presidents of the United States. The cast also features Adam Chanler-Berat as John Hinckley, Jr., Eddie Cooper as The Proprietor, Tavi Gevinson as Lynette “Squeaky” Fromme, Judy Kuhn as Sara Jane Moore, Steven Pasquale as John Wilkes Booth, Ethan Slater as Lee Harvey Oswald/The Balladeer, Will Swenson as Charles Guiteau, Wesley Taylor as Giuseppe Zangara, and Brandon Uranowitz as Leon Czolgosz. Brad Giovanine, Bianca Horn, Whit K. Lee, Rob Morrison, and Katrina Yaukey are members of the ensemble.

The production also has set design by director Doyle, costume design by Ann Hould-Ward, lighting design by Jane Cox and Tess James, sound design by Matt Stine, projection design by Steve Channon, wig design by Charles G. LaPointe, music supervision and orchestrations by Greg Jarrett, and casting by The Telsey Office. The production stage manager is Bernita Robinson, and the assistant stage manager is Hollace Jeffords.
