Amy Herzog's new adaptation of Ibsen's classic A Doll's House, currently making its world premiere at Broadway's Hudson Theatre, has been acquired for licensing by Concord Theatricals. The title will be offered through Concord's Samuel French imprint.

The work is currently a nominee for Best Revival of a Play at the 2023 Tony Awards. Since Herzog's adaptation is new and has not been previously Tony eligible, Herzog shares the nomination with the production's producers, and could share the win come June 11. Starring Jessica Chastain and Arian Moayed, the Broadway run is set to take its final bow June 10.

"I've been working with Samuel French for many years on my new plays, and I'm thrilled to reunite with their wonderful team on my very first adaptation," says Herzog in a statement. "At a moment where women's rights are imperiled at home and abroad, I know Concord Theatricals will shepherd this timeless feminist classic and help Ibsen find a new audience for his masterwork."

"Amy’s version of A Doll’s House deftly cuts to the heart of the complexity of Nora’s rich, inner conflict," adds Concord Vice President of Acquisitions and Artistic Development Amy Rose Marsh. "Her masterful use of language makes this influential work feel urgent and remarkably relatable. We are proud to represent this incredible piece of writing."

Ibsen's original work, about a housewife who makes the then-earth-shattering decision to leave her husband and family behind, premiered in Denmark in 1879. Originally written in Norwegian and Danish, the work has received a number of English translations and adaptations over the years. Concord alone manages four iterations of the play before Herzog's, including a 1937 adaptation by Thornton Wilder.
