The late Lucy Simon (The Secret Garden, Dr. Zhivago) is memorialized by some of Broadway's finest at Joe's Pub March 25. Named Come Spirit, Come Charm, the concert benefits Broadway Cares.
The daughter of publishing heavyweight Richard Simon (and sister of opera soprano Joanna, photographer Peter, and pop songwriter Carly), Ms. Simon was the musical mind behind the beloved musical The Secret Garden, which made her only the third woman in Broadway history to solo compose a musical theatre score. Passing away October 20, 2022 from metastatic breast cancer, the Joe's Pub memorial is the first large scale Broadway celebration of Ms. Simon's life and body of work.
The evening stars Tony winner Laura Benanti (Gypsy, She Loves Me), Tony nominee Stephen Bogardus (Bright Star, Love! Valour! Compassion!), Sierra Boggess (Harmony, The Little Mermaid), Paula Leggett Chase (Tootsie, Curtains), Ali Ewoldt (The Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables), Derrick Davis (Company, The Lion King), Greg Hildreth (Company, Frozen), Emily Hoder (The Secret Garden) and Sunny Hoder (Gypsy), John Riddle (Frozen, The Phantom of the Opera), Arbender Robinson (Shuffle Along, Beautiful), and Tony nominee Lauren Ward (Matilda, Follies).
Come Spirit, Come Charm is presented and directed by Jamie McGonnigal, with music direction by David Chase.
