Off-Broadway News Cole Escola to Make Off-Broadway Debut as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary!

Sam Pinkleton will direct the dark comedy at the Lucille Lortel.

Comedian Cole Escola will make their Off-Broadway debut in 2024 with Oh, Mary! Written by and starring Escola, the dark comedy will play the Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning January 26, 2024, for a limited eight-week engagement. Sam Pinkleton is directing.

Escola's screenwriting credits include At Home With Amy Sedaris and The Other Two, and they've appeared as an actor in Difficult PeopleMozart in the JungleAt Home With Amy Sedaris, and Big Mouth, among others. They released a comedy special on YouTube titled Help! I'm Stuck With Cole Escola in 2021, and an homage to '70s westerns Our Home Out West in November. Vanity Fair named the latter as one of the best performances of 2023.

Oh, Mary! will see Escola starring as Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks before Abraham Lincoln's assassination, exploring the "unrequited yearning, alcoholism, and suppressed desires" of the First Lady, according to press notes. Additional casting is to be announced.

The production will feature scenic design by dots, lighting design by Cha See, costume design by Holly Pierson, music by Daniel Kluger, sound design by Kluger and Drew Levy, and arrangements by David Dabbon. Escola's gowns will be by Astor Yang. Henry Russell Bergstein is casting.
