The first national tour of MJ the Musical, which launched in August 2023 starring Roman Banks, welcomed a new star in the title role earlier this summer.
Jamaal Fields-Green, who played John Laurens/Philip Hamilton in the national tour of Hamilton, stepped into the role of the King of Pop six times a week July 30. Fields-Green, previously the MJ Alternate in the tour, is the only actor to have played MJ in all three global productions of the musical: on Broadway, in the tour, and in London. He shares the role with Jordan Markus, who plays MJ twice a week.
The touring cast also features Brandon Lee Harris as Michael, Josiah Benson as Little Michael, Bane Griffith as Little Michael, Devin Bowles as Joseph Jackson/Rob, Cecilia Petrush as Rachel, J. Daughtry as Berry Gordy/Nick, Josh A. Dawson as Tito Jackson/Quincy Jones, Bryce A. Holmes as Little Marlon, Jed Resnick as Dave, Anthony J. Garcia as Alejandro, and Anastasia Talley as Katherine Jackson/Kate.
The ensemble includes Jōvan Dansberry as Randy Jackson, Croix DiIenno, Kellie Drobnick, Amber Jackson, Jacobi Kai as Jermaine Jackson, Matteo Marretta, Jay McKenzie as Jackie Jackson, and Brion Marquis Watson as Marlon Jackson.
Swings are JoJo Carmichael, Joshua Dawson, Zuri Noelle Ford, Ui-Seng François, Kyle DuPree, Jahir L. Hipps, Faith Jones, Rajané Katurah, Kendrick Mitchell, Zion Mikhail Pradier, and Charles P. Way plus Erik Hamilton as the MJ/Michael standby.

MJ began Broadway previews December 6, 2021, at the Neil Simon prior
to an official opening February 1, 2022.
The musical features a book by two-time Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn
Nottage and a score made up of some of the most popular songs in
recording history. Tony Award winner Wheeldon directs and choreographs.
MJ also has sets by Derek McLane, lighting by Natasha Katz, costumes by Paul Tazewell, sound design by Gareth Owen, projection design by Peter Nigrini, hair and wig design by Charles LaPointe, music direction by Jason Michael Webb, musical supervision by David Holcenberg, and orchestrations by Holcenberg and Webb. Casting is by Rachel Hoffman of The Telsey Office.
The show took home four Tony Awards in total, including Best Actor in a Musical for Myles Frost, Best
Choreography, Best Lighting Design in a Musical, and Best Sound Design
in a Musical.
