Cecily Strong Is Engaged

Emmy nominee Cecily Strong is engaged!

Strong, currently starring in Off-Broadway's Brooklyn Laundry for Manhattan Theatre Club, announced the news during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers March 26. As longtime friends, Meyers immediately prompted Strong to share the story of the not-quite-romantic proposal.

"It was not a surprise, but I am kind of a detective," Strong confessed as Meyers smirked. "We had talked about getting married, and one day he was like 'I'm so inundated with emails and texts, look at this!' and he showed me his phone, and the first text was from a friend, and it said 'How did it go?' with a ring emoji."

As Meyers breaks out laughing, Strong continues on. "And then, I was like, '... Oh. Oh no. Should I?' and he went 'Did you see that??' and I was like 'I could try very hard to lie, but...'"

Suprise or no surprise, Strong certainly has plenty to celebrate. In addition to her engagement, Strong is the star of Brooklyn Laundry, John Patrick Shanley's newest play, now running at New York City Center via Manhattan Theatre Club. Strong told Meyers the work has an earnest dramatic heart that allows her to act upon her earliest theatrical impulses.

"When I was in college, I wanted to do Angels in America," Strong shares. "I was doing a scene with Harper and Joe, with the line 'are you a homo?'... I was doing that, and everyone laughed. And I was sort of like, 'excuse me?! I'm a dramatic actress'. That was sort of the beginning for me, I think comedy and drama... life's absurd, and it's all funny, you play it all the same."

Strong continues to star in Brooklyn Laundry through April 14 at Manhattan Theatre Club's New York City Center's Stage I space.
